The city elections of 1893 in 's-Hertogenbosch revolved around a school. The teachers' training college needed a larger building, budgeted at ƒ150 000. The dominant Roman catholic church was dead set against. It considered education to be a task of the church, not the state. The Roman catholic party won the elections and the school moved to Nijmegen. Now, the church struck back. A vacant lot was donated and a seminary opened in 1895. Its official name was Bisschoppelijke KweekSchool (Episcopal seminary). Its teachers were the fathers of Tilburg. Its regimen was rather harsh: pupils (males only) could not leave the school building, except for a short march on Wednesdays or a longer march on Saturdays and for school holidays. The marches were regimented and supervised. Fees were considerable and meals spartan. School fees were relatively hefty. Yet, lack of funds had caused the building to have a number of deficiencies. It had to be reconstructed in 1932. As segmentation eased, the school lost its religious character. During the 1960s' it merged with another school. It moved to a new building in 1980. The old building stood empty, was occupied by squatters for a while and was demolished.
