George Henry Branton was born in Winstead near Hull in 1829, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Branton. His father Thomas was listed as a gamekeeper in the 1851 census. In 1867 George was advertising an omnibus for hire at Hall Street, Springbank.

In the Hull Daily News in February 1873 George Branton was advertising that he was extending his services from one route to four routes. The advert also mentions tickets with a reduction for the purchase of a dozen. This would indicate that he started issuing the tokens in 1873. At this time he was still based at Springbank. In February 1881 Joseph Ion reported that George Branton had sold his omnibus services to the HUll Omnibus and Carriage Company. This company appears to have started by 1877, which would be the end of George Branton's omnibus services.

In White's 1882 Commercial Directory of Hull George Branton is listed as an cab proprietor based at 21.5 Derringham Street. He operated twice weekly carriages to various outlying villages from the Black Swan, Mytongate. For the 1891 census George was at Scarburough but is still listed as a cab proprietor. He died in 1901 and was buried in Hull General Cemetery.
